"Our debut album was from March of 1988 and we had built one mean collection of tunes over time." Says Clark "The Shark" Hagins in 2012; "We would rehearse at Ted's House." ( Bassist Rick Carmody ) Near El Retiro Park Torrance Calif. "Our goal was to devise a whole new sound that would totally change music ,.. but really, we weren't just another "Psychedelic" Garage band from the 80's which was a common thing back in the day." Hagins says that the song "Precarious" was rehearsed extensively and that "Number One" was the natural follow up track for ROCK CITY PRODUCTIONS BLOGGING 2012; "OUR BAND was just a three piece line up but we had an explosive sound ,.. my drumming went perfectly with Keegan's very reckless and experimental guitar,.. no doubt !" Hagins was reknowned in the "South Bay" area ,. ( Redondo Beach / Torrance California ) as one of the Wildest and Greatest Drummers in town and he had played drums for nearly 30 different bands dating back to 1982 when he was just 17 years old; "I was known primarily as this Great Drummer but secretly at my home studio,.. I worked extensively on my singing and guitar noodlings ,.. I had my own songwriting ideas that were very vast ,.. But for the most part, I kept it all to myself ,.. at least for as long as I could." ( Laughs ),.. Hagins had worked on his own "demo tapes" in 1985 and 86' by himself,.. before he joined G.e officially in 1987; "For about 6 months or so, I only drummed in G.e ,.. but one day I played some of my tapes to them and the next thing I knew,.. I was the LEAD SINGER ,..BUT FROM THE DRUM KIT !!" HAGINS DRUMMING HAD always been an explosive combination of hard hitting masters like Keith Moon and John Bonham and his hard partying ways seemed to follow those two legends as well; "We all drank a lot and everybody smoked a 'hella lotta weed,..I rarely did though,... it wrecked my drumming" Says Hagins.
Hagins singing in the studio was a bit like David Bowie ,.. maybe Syd Barrett and maybe with some trappings of the 60's Who from Tommy ,.. but when he sang live at gigs from the drums,.. a new power exploded out of the P.A. System that was almost like Robert Plant!; "When G.e played live, people could not believe how good we were,... no bands wanted us opening for them ,..that's for certain" Says Hagins,.. "We were a very powerful rock band but we could play blues tunes with the best of em' too."
Hagins recalls a G.e. gig at Wilson Park Stadium in June 1990 where the three piece G.e. had "Total Command" of the gig and from the get-go ! "Precarious was our first song ,.. and we just went crazy from there,.. huge crowd ,, we never made one mistake ,..very loud, very powerful ,.. it was fucking insane ,.. Cream and The Who would have been proud of that shit" Says Hagins.
G.e had diverse influences from Black Flag and The Who and David Bowie to the Chocolate Watchband, Zeppelin, and Deep Purple to Cream and beyond !

The guitar work in G.e from Phil Keegan cannot be talked about enough. This Axeman practically "invented" Grunge but also displayed a knack for total original ideas that were loud , proud, crude, and POWERFUL above all else !
"The early phase of G.e has Flipper's stamp all over it ,.. he was the leader of our band" Says Hagins. "When we played live shows as the three piece,.. the audience knew they were witnessing the BEST BAND IN CALIFORNIA 1988, 89, 90 ! ,..BUT WE BLEW it when we went four piece ,.. because that killed the "Magic Trio" effect ,..as I tried to explain to Phil ,..
Rather than return to the Trio format, G.e got in to debates about September 1990 ,.. about the groups's direction and huge arguments ensued ,..fragmenting the band ; "I wanted to go back to 1988 type shit,.. be a three piece,.. Phil didn't want to,..he liked the new Four Man Format with new drummer Mike Valencia now on board" Says Hagins; "Things boiled over at a show in Camarillo California organized by a guy named Larry Coven; "We got to this gig ,..and well ,..it was kinda this huge deal ,..but it was right in the middle of some indoor Strip mall" Says Hagins,.. "Keegan said there was no way he was playing that gig ,.. and I was like ,.. dude we drove all the way here, let's just do this shit" ,..but the other three members of G.e. agreed against Hagins and the gig was cancelled and the band all drove back to Torrance; "That was the end of the first phase of G.e right there" Says Hagins " but a new G.e. would soon arise,..
